Jaskeerat ‘Jas’ Heera is a Panjabi-Québécois comedian, born and raised in Montreal, who made the perfectly sensible decision to go all-in on stand-up comedy after graduating from law school.
For Jas, stand-up comedy has always been more than just about making people laugh. It’s one of the rare spaces where we can be honest about the things we usually don’t know how, when, or where to talk about. Our minds are messy. We have thoughts we’re embarrassed to admit, beliefs that contradict each other, questions we’re afraid to ask, and feelings we don’t always understand – none of which disappear just by keeping them to ourselves. Comedy gives us a way to confront those thoughts, play with them, make light of them and, hopefully, realize we’re not alone.
That belief shapes Jas’ comedy. Drawing from his experiences growing up in Montreal, his own struggles, his attempts at making sense of the world around him and his interest in social issues, he gravitates toward the conversations people sometimes prefer to avoid. Not because he has all the answers, but because he believes honest discourse is where we find them.
That same philosophy eventually helped inspire The Tomatic Show: a comedy show where the audience doesn’t have to sit quietly if they disagree.
